Waking the Dead 2.0 || July 5-11, 2063 || The Wait

[Beautiful as Seigi is and generous as your hosts have been, it is hard to forget why you're here again.

Zangyaku is carrying on as per usual, as if your presence doesn't mean anything. It isn't a dismissal, though: it's an acknowledgment of the work that you must do, and that they are, by merit of your presence, helping you do it.]


General OOC Notes:
+ This is a catch-all post for any interactions that take place during the in-game period I indicated. Make sure to label your subject lines accordingly!
+ You're all staying at close to the Wolf's Ward, which is the wing devoted to the Blade King and the Wolfborn.
+ You're free to move around until about 7 PM. You have free run of the base.
+ You can, regardless of whether you have a license with Zangyaku or not, join in on minor routine engagements like patrol, or helping out at any of the divisions.
+ There is a free teleport back to Falner. You can go any time, as long as you're back before call time for the vigil with Ginko Takasugi-Vice from 8 PM until 4 AM.

General behavior of significant NPCs in the area:
+ Kasumi is your host, and effectively the officer in command for this leg of the operation.
+ Hikaru is generally NOT around during the day. He only turns up around dinner time to eat with everyone, take a temperature check on his end, and then immerse himself in his own work.
+ NPCs that have been fielded out to watch over David Young and Minato Arisato are available on call.
+ Other NPCs may be available on request. Just ping me?

[ And here's Josh nodding at Ginko to excuse himself. He was mostly keeping her company, after all.

Taking that mug now and lifting the coffee to his lips. ]

Thanks, kiddo. Sleep okay?

Slept enough, I guess.

[He takes a sip of his coffee and smiles, before unclasping the sheathes and putting the Wings aside and sitting next to Josh.]

Anything so far?

[larue]

[ There's a momentary pause before the Sin-Eater shakes his head. ]

Nothing yet.

[ He's looking at some indeterminate point in the distance as he lifts his cigarette to his lips. His phone is cradled quietly in one hand. ]

Have you eaten?

[He'll know if you so much as fib, Josh. And he will run to the mess hall for food if you haven't.]

[larue]

[ A wan smile your way now. ]

I did. [ Some. He'd gone straight to the mess after Hikaru had given him the brush-off. Had turned his thoughts back to the engagement and the newsfeed that gave him so little in the hopes of wiping out the image of his friend and those bandages and that clock.

Everything he'd taken in had tasted like paper. ]

I promise.

[ He manages a smile that's a little better than the first. But just by a bit. ]

Have you?

[There's something in the way you're smiling that pings on Kaz, Joshua. But you said you ate, he's not gonna press any further than that for now.]

I've had something.

[All the tempura-don he could stuff his face with. Funny how his uniform is still quite immaculate though.]

Good. [ And that's all he says for a while, because he's fishing out his cigarettes and lighter, and taking sips of that coffee.

His gaze is also wandering over to Ginko, but it doesn't linger long. You're all on watch tonight and that's reassurance enough. ]

[Have your baby brother bumping his head against your shoulder, at a loss for how to deal with your worry.]

We'll get him back. I know we will.

[larue]

[ He tries for a smile... and is mildly successful.

Ruffling your hair a bit. A grateful look your way. ]

Yeah. We will.

[ He has to believe that. He can't accept otherwise. ]

[And for the moment, Kaz settles, like a puppy content at having his ear scratched.]

That said... Where're the others?

[larue]

[ He's taking a drag from that cigarette, like a sigh. ]

Probably on their way. [ This one's offering you a smile now, small as it is. ] I'm sure they'll be here soon.

Penny for your thoughts?

[A dollar for your insight, and a fortune for... as the classic song went. He caught that sigh, and Kaz has never been one to ignore you if something is wrong, apart from the most obvious thing.]

[larue]

[ A quiet shrug and an accompanying shake of the head at that. ] Just got my thoughts all tangled up.

[ He doesn't elaborate, but his eyes are scanning the area in that familiar fashion that you may have noted from previous engagements: Palawan, South Korea, Quiapo, Shin Yamatai, and the rest. ]

[Kaz knows that very well, so he just leans back and digs out his game system. Hey, he doesn't want to fall asleep so he gets that out and settles in for the night. Patapon's an interesting game to play, and believe it or not, he can actually play it and still talk.]

Well, I get that... Don't let it get too tangled up? If you wanna talk about it, go, I can play and talk at the same time.

[ He's just going to smile was he watches you play. You're a really good kid, Kaz. He just... he doesn't know how to make sense of his little dilemma at the moment.

So he's going to smoke through his cigarettes and keep watch, occasionally looking over to watch you go through that rhythm game. ]

and this is where he bounces.

[Too bad he keeps missing you looking, just by a few seconds. He's burning the battery of his V-ta out, and maybe he can't take it anymore, because he stores it in his coat but leaves his headphones on.

If you feel movement, it's because Kaz just got up and is reaching for his smokes and lighter. He lights one up, and walks into the forest, wanting to be alone.]

[ He's going to watch you go, gaze lingering for a little longer even if you're finally out of sight. When he's pretty sure that you won't be back for a bit, he turns his attention to his phone and does a review of the network for anything.

It's a pretty good distraction from his thoughts.

For the first five minutes, at least. ]
